Forecast DC is the definitive portal for the National Capital Region's weather and climate — built to make the official National Weather Service forecast fast, clean, and highway-clear across all 16 jurisdictions, from Loudoun and Frederick down to Stafford and Calvert.
Washington sits on a weather seam. The rain–snow line runs straight through the metro, so one storm can leave sleet on the Mall and a foot of snow in Frederick. Summer brings the swamp heat, the squall lines that come down off the Blue Ridge, and the derechos. The Potomac and the Anacostia flood from above and from the tide below. And every spring the whole city watches one forecast in particular — peak bloom at the Tidal Basin.
The look borrows from the American Interstate system — the reflective paper, the green guide signs, the blue service signs, the brown recreation signs, and the red-white-and-blue route shields — set in Overpass, the typeface drawn from the Highway Gothic lettering on those signs. As a metro site, D.C. takes a warm monument-marble paper and a cherry-blossom rose accent — its own note in the network.
